AGBOZUAME AND SALLAKOPE FAMILIES (VOLTA REGION) Mrs. Obaa Yaa Afrifa was born in 1934 in Akyem Asafo, a daughter of two worlds. Born to the late Mr. Addo of Akyem and the late Madam Lucy Ackumey of Agbozuame, she embodied the strength and heritage of both lineages. Her journey began in the Volta Region, where she lived with her maternal uncle, Mr. Alex Norli Akumey. It was under his care at Agbozuame that she began her elementary education at the Anglican Primary School. Seeking to broaden her horizons, she later returned to Akyem Asafo to complete her schooling, eventually progressing through secondary school and Teacher Training College—paving the way for a life defined by intellect and leadership. In 1961, destiny led her toAccra, where shemet Brigadier Akwasi Amankwa Afrifa of Ashanti Mampong. Their union was one of mutual respect and shared history. Obaa Yaa was a woman of the world. She traveled extensively, particularly to the United States, but she never traveled alone in spirit. She was a visionary and a pillar of support, using her success to open doors for others. Because of her kindness and determination, she assisted all of her children and many of her siblings in seeking better opportunities in the USA. She was known for her unwavering principles. In a world of compromise, her “Yes was Yes” and her “No was No.” She was an entrepreneur with a sharp mind for strategy, often found mentoring both men and women on the intricacies of business. Her passion for politics was matched only by her skill in it; she was a natural leader who understood the pulse of her community. Despite her high standing, her heart remained anchored to her roots. She held a deep, abiding love for both her paternal and maternal families, ensuring that no one under her watch was ever left behind. “A great tree has fallen in the forest of our heritage. When she fell ill and traveled to America for medical treatment, we waited with bated breath. Her return to Ghana brought us immense joy, but little did we know that she had returned only to bid us a final farewell before transitioning to her Maker. To the families of Agbozuame and Sallakope, her departure leaves a void that words cannot fill. We ask ourselves: To whom shall we go for clarity? Who will offer the firm yet loving advice that guided us through our darkest problems? Though our hearts are heavy, we do not mourn as those without hope. You left us in the hands of the Lord, and it is in Him that we seek our solace. Rest in perfect peace, Nana Obaa Yaa. Your legacy is etched in our hearts forever.
